DSE® electrode for H2 Evolution

DSE® electrode for H2 Evolution (active cathode) was developed based on the thermal decomposition method which is a core technology of PERMELEC. The main component of this electrode is a platinum group metal catalyst, which is mainly used as a cathode for brine electrolysis, and enables sharp reduction of the voltage compared to conventional electrodes.
This electrode is expected to be used in alkali water electrolysis cells when the hydrogen society arrives in the future.

1. Enables stable operation even with a high current density of 6 kA/m2 or more
2. Reduction of cathode overvoltage (100 mV or less)
3. Stability in reverse currents
4. Smooth surface which does not damage the ion-exchange membrane
5. No generation of impurities which affect the membrane performance
6. Poisoning resistant

This electrode has an extremely low hydrogen generation overvoltage, with robustness against reverse currents, and has excellent poisoning resistance characteristics to ferrous ions and etc. Since the electrode surface is smooth, the ion-exchange membrane will not be damaged.
